Today, 32.5 million people – 1 in almost every 7 American adults – have osteoarthritis (OA). This disease mainly affects the hands, knees, and hips in adults. OA rates are expected to increase in the years ahead as Baby Boomers age and the effects of the obesity epidemic begin to manifest. OA is common, costly, and a leading cause of disability.

Many Americans with OA face chronic pain and functional limitations, which can result in job loss, stress, depression, and reduced quality of life. OA pain can also inhibit physical activity which interferes with the management of other chronic conditions and can put a strain on your mental health. You are not alone and there are resources available to support you.

Join one of the OA Action Alliance support groups for people with OA:

HealthUnlocked – The world’s largest social network for health, with 1 million members across the globe, and growing. Join the “Osteoarthritis Action” community to connect with other individuals with osteoarthritis.

StandUp2OA Facebook Group – This support group was created as a safe place on Facebook where approved members can share their goals, questions, and everyday struggles with osteoarthritis.
