Louise B. Murphy, PhD
Senior Researcher, Optum Life Sciences

Dr. Murphy is a Senior Researcher at Optum Life Sciences. She directs all aspects of health economics and outcomes research projects based on retrospective administrative claims and electronic health records data with a focus on oncology. Prior to joining Optum in 2021, she was a Senior Epidemiologist in the Arthritis Program at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) where she managed and conducted research studies on a range of topics related to the personal and societal impact of arthritis including mental health, pain, physical activity, self-management program participation, and cost-of-illness. She led and collaborated with Johnston County Osteoarthritis Project investigators on osteoarthritis projects related to lifetime risk, prevalence, and incidence of osteoarthritis. Dr Murphy also served on CDC’s Ebola and COVID-19 responses. Dr. Murphy has over 100 peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations on chronic diseases including arthritis, chronic pain, and respiratory conditions. She earned her PhD in Epidemiology from University of Toronto.
