Falls Prevention Awareness Week 2020

COVID-19 has changed a lot of things, but one has stayed the same: Falling is NOT a normal part of aging. Did you know people with osteoarthritis are at higher risk for falls and fall-related injuries? Join the National Council on Aging this week in a nationwide effort to raise awareness about preventing falls. Use the new online Falls Free CheckUp tool (also en español) to get a personalized look at your risk factors and how to address them. Then spread the word to friends and family. It’s a nice way to reach out and show you care!

Falls prevention is a team effort

In addition to the Falls Free CheckUp tool, here are some other sharable resources to reduce the risk of falls:

  • Videos: See how you can prevent falls.
  • Practical tips: Get steps you can take right now (also en español).
  • Falls prevention programs: Contact your local senior center, YMCA, or Area Agency on Aging to find an evidence-based falls prevention program near you.
  • Walking through challenging times: Resources are tight for many people right now, but the ability to manage osteoarthritis and other chronic conditions remains essential.
You can free yourself from aging by reinterpreting your body and by grasping the link between belief and biology.
