StandUp Tip

If you use a wheelchair and want to increase your physical activity, consider pushing up an incline or over a softer surface, such as carpet or grass, which increases the resistance you face.

Active Aging Week

Active Aging WeekWe are currently in the midst of Active Aging Week (Oct 5-11, 2020) and here is your chance to take part in the movement!  Initiated in 2003 by the International Council on Active Aging, this weeklong campaign seeks to call attention to and wholeheartedly celebrate the positivity of aging today.  While the risk of developing osteoarthritis (OA) increases with age, OA is not an inevitable part of aging.  Evidence shows that injury prevention and weight loss can prevent the onset of OA, and weight loss or maintenance, physical activity, and self-management education can reduce the symptoms and progression of OA at any age.

In-person or online, Active Aging Week is a great time to explore a wealth of free, informational videos to engage healthy bodies, minds, and spirits.  Below you will find a sample of some fascinating videos on history, the arts, lifestyle, and more, with additional videos available for viewing on the Active Aging Week website.  Simply select the videos you want to watch, fill in the form (this only has to be done once), and get active!

We can’t avoid age. However, we can avoid some aging. Continue to do things. Be active. Life is fantastic in the way it adjusts to demands; if you use your muscles and mind, they stay there much longer.
