In the first of this 2-part series, Dr. Jordan discusses osteoarthritis care and current studies in osteoarthritis at UNC. She highlights the evolution in our understanding of the biologic mechanisms that drive osteoarthritis, current care strategies and ongoing research that brings our understanding of what works for OA in the tightly controlled laboratory setting out to the real-world community setting.

In the second part of the series, Dr. Jordan discusses the broader scope of the UNC Division of Rheumatology, Allergy and Immunology, including why these three areas are lumped in one division; its recent work in understanding the Alpha-Gal, or red meat, allergy; and community involvement with the Osteoarthritis Action Alliance and “Walk with a Doc,” emphasizing Dr. Amanda Nelson’s role as the first rheumatologist to start a local chapter in this national walking program.
