Ice can pose a challenge as surfaces such as walkways, steps, driveways, and sidewalks become extra slippery and increase the risk of falling. According to the CDC, 1 out of 5 falls causes a serious injury such as broken bones or a head injury. The National Council on Aging noted people with osteoarthritis (OA) experience 30% more falls and have a 20% greater risk of fractures than people who do not have OA.
