    Osteoarthritis and Diabetes

    Arthritis and diabetes have a lot in common. According to the Arthritis Foundation, almost half of all adults with diabetes (47%) also have arthritis. In addition, people with arthritis have a 61% higher risk of developing diabetes than those without arthritis. That may not be surprising, considering that the two conditions share a number of common risk factors.

    Veterans Day will be celebrated this year on Wednesday, 11/11 and the OA Action Alliance would like to thank all the men and women who served in the U.S. Armed Forces. Arthritis is the second leading cause of discharge from the military, affecting one in three veterans. Post-traumatic arthritis develops in approximately half of all cases of traumatic joint injury.

    Active Aging Week

    Initiated in 2003 by the International Council on Active Aging, Active Aging Week (Oct 5-11, 2020) seeks to call attention to and wholeheartedly celebrate the positivity of aging today. While the risk of developing osteoarthritis (OA) increases with age, OA is not an inevitable part of aging. Evidence shows that injury prevention and weight loss can prevent the onset of OA, and weight loss or maintenance, physical activity, and self-management education can reduce the symptoms and progression of OA at any age.
