Summary Report of the Arthritis Foundation and the American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society’s Symposium on Targets for Osteoarthritis Research
Kim, JS., et al.; Foot & Ankle Orthopaedics
This 2-part series of articles recount the key points presented in a collaborative symposium sponsored jointly by the Arthritis Foundation and the American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society in December, 2021. Part 1 highlighted areas of epidemiology and pathophysiology, current approaches in imaging, diagnostic and therapeutic injections, and genetics. Part 2 focused on current treatment options, including orthotics, non–joint destructive procedures, as well as arthroscopies and arthroplasties in ankles and feet. The osteoarthritis scientific community, including funding agencies, academia, industry, and regulatory agencies, must recognize the importance to such patients of addressing foot and ankle osteoarthritis with improved basic, translational, and clinical research.
