AAOS Clinical Practice Guideline Summary: Management of Osteoarthritis of the Knee (Nonarthroplasty), Third Edition

Brophy, R. & Fillingham, Y., Journal of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons

The purpose of this clinical practice guideline was to evaluate current best evidence associated with the treatment of knee osteoarthritis (KOA) in adults ages 17 years and older. The scope of this guideline include nonpharmacologic and pharmacologic interventions for symptomatic KOA, as well as surgical procedures less invasive than knee arthroplasty. This guideline contains 29 recommendations to assist all qualified and appropriately trained healthcare professionals involved in the nonarthroplasty management of KOA and provide information for patients. Discussions of how each recommendation was developed and the complete evidence report are contained in the full guideline at http://www.aaos.org/oak3cpg. Readers are urged to consult the full guideline for the comprehensive evaluation of the available scientific studies.
